Marcus Duck is Honored for 2019
The Irrigation Association recently announced the recipient of the 2019 Excellence in Education Award. According to an IA press release, the award honors one who teaches "irrigation, water management and/or water conservation in a two- or four-year institution." The recipient is further acknowledged for promoting and encouraging the field of irrigation as career choice for students. Marcus Duck is an advisor and instructor of Michigan State University's horticulture department, as well as the program coordinator for the Fruit, Vegetable and Organic Management Certificate and the Landscape and Nursery Management Certificate. Duck regularly attends the IA's Faculty Academy and the NALP's National Collegiate Landscape Competition. "Very few people can make irrigation education as fun and as interesting to college students as Marcus Duck," said IA CEO Deborah Hamlin, CAE, FASAE. "During his tenure at Michigan State, Marcus has not only promoted efficient irrigation through education but he also exposes his students to real-world industry insights and opportunities that many students throughout the United States do not receive."
