36 Individuals Represent 23 ASLA Chapters
by Keziah Olsen, LASN

The ASLA has announced this year's Council of Fellows, comprising 36 individuals who have shown exceptional leadership, knowledge, and service over their careers.

The ASLA recently released the names of 36 individuals who have been chosen to be part of the 2026 Class of Fellows. This year's group boasts 21 men and 15 women representing 17 states in addition to Washington, D.C. and Canada. As often happens, California is home to the most Fellows with a total of five. Massachusetts follows close behind with four, and New York ties with Colorado and Maryland for three each. The remaining fourteen states are home to 1 or 2. Eighteen Fellows-Elect were nominated in the Leadership/Management category, 10 were nominated in the Works category, five were nominated in the Knowledge category, and three in the Service category. The 2026 Class of Fellows will be officially elevated at a special ceremony during the ASLA's 2026 Conference on Landscape Architecture in Los Angeles, California, held September 16-18.

The Council of Fellows is one of the highest honors an ASLA member can receive, as this distinction is reserved only for those who have shown exceptional leadership, knowledge, and service across their career. According to the ASLA Council of Fellows webpage, 1,593 Fellows have been elected since 1899, more than 700 of whom are still active or hold emeritus status. Those nominated to the Council must be full ASLA members in good standing for a minimum of 10 years who are recommended by the Executive Committees of either their local chapter, the ASLA, or the Council of Fellows.
