Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Plan Approved for All 50 States

Plan Includes $1.5 Billion in Funding

The White House approved plans to develop electric vehicle charging in all 50 states covering about 75,000 miles.

The United States Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration announced the approval of the Biden Administration's Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Deployment Plan for all 50 states, the District of Colombia, and Puerto Rico. These plans are part of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program which was established through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. There is $1.5 billion in funding through NEVI for all the states to build electric vehicle chargers across 75,000 miles throughout the country. NEVI also makes $5 billion available over five years to help build a convenient, reliable, and affordable electric vehicle charging network.

Unite States Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg explained, "We have approved plans for all 50 States, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia to help ensure that Americans in every part of the country - from the largest cities to the most rural communities-can be positioned to unlock the savings and benefits of electric vehicles."

The US Department of Transportation also revealed a list of projects related to electric vehicle charging which includes upgrade of existing and construction of new electric vehicle charging infrastructure, installation of on-site electrical service equipment, community and stakeholder engagement, workforce development activities, electric vehicle charging station signage, data sharing activities, and related mapping analysis and activities.
