Janet Hartin earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in horticulture from University of Minnesota and has been in her current position as Environmental Horticulturist with University of California Cooperative Extension since 1984. Her major responsibilities are conducting applied research and providing educational services to professional landscapers employed in San Bernardino and Los Angeles Counties. Areas of expertise include irrigation management, use of compost, and integrated pest management of landscape plants. She has presented over 300 talks and authored and/or coauthored over 200 technical and non-technical articles on all aspects of landscape horticulture, including a 205 page book entitled "Become a Landscape Company Owner'. Ms. Hartin currently has grants from the Department of Water Resources and the California Integrated Waste Management Board to further her work on water conservation and green waste management, respectively. .
