Tree Pest Management in SoCal by Beatriz Nobue-Behrmann, Ph.D.
Dr. Beatriz Nobua-Behrmann is a University of California Cooperative Extension advisor for Orange and Los Angeles Counties, specialized in Urban Forestry. Her research background is in insect-plant interactions. She received her Ph. D. in insect ecology and her B.S. in Biology from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Beatriz's research and extension program is focused on finding appropriate management strategies for urban forest pests that affect Southern California's trees, like the invasive shothole borers and goldspotted oak borer. She is presenting the seminar Tree Pest Management in SoCal on November 17th at 1:30PM.

Geoff Gretchenson is a licensed specialist in pesticide laws and regulations. He is, and has been for many years, engaged in detection of serious exotic agricultural pests. This detection procedure utilizes his professional identification of specimens that resemble those serious exotic agricultural pests. He is an expert in pesticide law which governs wholesome and legal use of pesticides. Heat, drought, and pest resistant landscape trees for Southern CA by Janet Hartin
Janet Hartin is an Area Environmental Horticulturist with University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR). Her expertise includes drought-resistant trees, minimum irrigation needs of landscape plants, pest prevention through proper plant selection and care, and use of organic materials as mulches and soil amendments. Her current research projects include identifying tree species that withstand harsh inland and desert environments and urban heat islands and the impact of mulch on the landscape tree health and performance. She is presenting the seminar Heat, drought, and pest resistant landscape trees for Southern CA on November 16th at 10:00AM.

Weed Managementl by Jim Baird
Jim Baird has been the Turfgrass Specialist at the University of California, Riverside since 2008. His primary responsibilities include conducting research and providing outreach for the California turfgrass industry. He will be discussing how to manage weeds through a drought, without harmful chemicals, common weed species in turfgrass in Southern California, PRE and POST weed control strategies for turfgrass weeds, and characteristics and best uses for existing and new herbicides. His seminar Weed Management is on November 16th at 8:00AM.

Common Tree Pests, Observing, Identifying, and Management by Kevin Sims
If you're in the California tree care industry, the name Sims is a household name. Following in his parents footsteps, Kevin Sims carries on the family mission of being dedicated to the preservation, education, improved health, & safety of trees. Growing up in tree preservation gave Kevin a unique head-start in his education of trees. He earned various certifications at a very young age including his ISA Certified Arborist license, Pesticide Applicators license, and ISA Certified Tree Risk Assessor Certification. Today he is now the Senior Arborist and Owner of Sims Tree Health Specialists, Inc., a tree healthcare business that he runs alongside his wife, Nicole. Niamh Quinn is University of California Cooperative Extension Human-Wildlife Interactions Advisor, based at the South Coast Research and Extension Center in Irvine . . . Gophers and ground squirrels are some of the most damaging landscape pests and can cause thousands of dollars worth of damage to high value landscape, particularly turf. Join Dr. Niamh Quinn as she discusses strategies for integrated approaches these burrowing rodents. Information will be provided on fumigation, rodenticide, trapping, and other approaches to gopher and ground squirrel management.
