Did you know that North Dakota has the highest number of pesticide applicators per capita in the United States? Neither did I until that memo came across my desk courtesy of LASN?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s burgeoning department of Research, Statistics and Information Services.
One of the many improvements made by LASN over the past year or two has been establishing a department dedicated to researching the ever-expanding world of landscape. From personal statistics (90.1% of LASN readers expect their business to stay the same [41.4%] or grow [48.7%] in 2004) to all matter of things (0.4 to 0.5 tons of soil per squared kilometer are lost to soil erosion in an undisturbed forest per year) the research team is piling up interesting and pertinent tidbits that you?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?ll find throughout the magazine . . . in any corner we can find . . .
But that?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s not all . . . In addition to adding to the monthly word count of LASN (and LASN?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s brothers, Landscape Contractor and Landscape Superintendent), the research team just can?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?t get enough. Headed by Jim Lipot, who just received his MBA, and complemented by the enthusiasm of Jen Beauvais and the steady hand of Colleen Cannova, the RSIS team is ready to be tested by you . . .
So . . . If you need a statistic or two relating to the industry, give ?EUR??,,????'?????<??EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?em a call at 714-979-5276. They?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?re hoping they don?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?t know the answer already so they can begin another new adventure . . . We don?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?t charge for this service, we just want LASN to be the leading center of information throughout the industry and are here to serve . . .
If you don?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?t want to write us, you may want to see us at a show . . .
February is a busy month for LASN as we have three trade shows to attend . . . all during the four days of the 17th ?EUR??,,????'?????<???(R) 20th! You?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?d think they would have looked up the dates on landscapearchitect.com?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s Calendar of Events and given the industry a bit of a break . . . Anyways, we hope to see you all at either the IECA (Erosion Control) show in Philadelphia, the World of Concrete in Orlando, or the CLCA show in Long Beach, Calif. See the dates above (or check out landscapearchitect.com for all the contact info) and look for LASN in the booth with the hand-painted display . . .
Actually, LASN will be attending 16 trade shows this year, starting in Denver at the Pro Green show and ending in Florida at IAAPA. Of course, we?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?ll be at the ASLA show during Halloween in Salt Lake City . . . I know they do Halloween in New Orleans, but do they do Halloween in Salt Lake? . . . I?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?m just looking forward to the drive out through Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park. If you are planning on going to ASLA?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s meeting, be sure to plan an extra few days and drive the countryside. Utah is one spectacular piece of property . . .
So, off we go . . . on to the shows, armed with the ammunition of information . . .
Have a great month and God Bless . . .
