The Washington State University landscape architecture program is celebrating fifty years at a celebration on April 24 in Seattle at Block 41 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

 

The Landscape Architecture program was approved by the University Senate in 1975 but was initially accredited in Spring of 1973. Initially, the program was established alongside landscape gardening and floriculture on the Pullman campus in 1893.

From there, the first faculty was hired in 1949 as part of the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. Since then, the program has grown and began being offered as a minor in the 2023-24 school year and as part of the new Eco-Arts and Community Engagement Certificate in 2022-23 school year. According to the program's webpage, the average enrollment limit into the second year of the major is 25 students.

As the Class of 2025 celebrates their educational careers winding down, alumni, professors, and current students will commemorate this important department milestone. LASN reached out to Program Head, Jolie Kaytes for comment but at the time of publication had not heard back.
