Shaping Communities by Serving the Industry
Diana Jones Allen, Director of the Landscape Architecture program in the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Arlington, was recently selected into the ASLA Council of Fellows. She is one of 22 fellows to be elected for the 2019 class. "Dr. Allen's research around transit deserts and social justice as well as sustainability are shaping the future of resilient design practices, and already her work is helping mold the future of the DFW Metroplex as we grow to megacity levels," praises UTA president Vistasp Karbhari in a news release. "Through her work and that of her students, UTA continues to positively impact the communities we serve." According to the UTA news release, Allen was selected in 2017 to make public-policy recommendations in a national panel dealing with natural disasters and climate change events. Allen has also written a book about the problems of transit deserts in urban areas, titled "Lost in the Transit Desert: Race, Transit Access, and Suburban Form."
