The US Play Coalition announced award winners at its 10th Anniversary Conference on the Value of Play. Held at Clemson University, the award winners were recognized for their knowledge of play and their contributions to their communities. In the last decade, the coalition has awarded close to $60,000 in grants dedicated to a variety of projects that focus on play experience and knowledge. The categories for the awards are Joe L. Frost Award for Distinguished Research, Youth Learning Institute's Youth Development Practitioner Award, 2019 Action Grant, and 2019 Research Seed Grant. The Joe L. Frost Award for Distinguished Research recognizes exceptional research in the field of play conducted by a play researcher. The award is named after Joe L. Frost, a dedicated committee member and play advocate. Youth Learning Institute's Youth Development Practitioner Award is dedicated to Clemson University's Youth Learning Institute, which creates programs for K-12, fosters research, and acts as a resource for networking. The award recognizes outstanding performance in the creation and implementation of youth programs and services. 2019 Action Grant Winners are selected based on the funding needs of on-going projects aimed at fostering play in specific communities. 2019 Research Seed Grant is awarded to a specific project aimed at developing resources at networking tools for designers, facility managers, administrators, school and childcare staff, and community groups.
