Beatrix Farrand was undoubtedly a very famous landscape architect. She was the only female founding member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, she designed two White House Gardens in 1913, and even has her own documentary directed by 2016 Emmy award winner Karyl Evans.Between 1912 and 1943, Farrand was Princeton University's official landscape architect and designed many different areas of the historic campus. One of those areas, a courtyard located among Henry, Foulke, Laughlin and 1901 residence halls, will be forever dedicated to Farrand, as the university announced it will name the courtyard Beatrix Farrand Courtyard in her honor.
"Beatrix Farrand's legacy endures not only through her beautiful, practical and still flourishing designs, but through continuing application of guidelines she developed that have shaped Princeton's landscape through successive generations," said professor of history Angela Creager in a statement found on the Princeton website.
