The Potomac ASLA Chapter recently held its annual Chapter Celebration, during which members looked back on the highlights of the past year and congregated with colleagues and friends. During the festivities, the chapter named the winner of its PARK(ing) Day Instagram Contest.Every year on PARK(ing) Day, ASLA members, many grouped by chapter, firm or school, create park-lets out of spaces normally reserved for metered parking. Participating members are encouraged to post their pop-up parks on social media, this year using the hashtag #aslapd18. On September 21, 2018, Instagram was filled with images of people relaxing and playing games in several tiny parks. The winning group for the Potomac Chapter was the Student ASLA team from the University of Maryland. Student ASLA members Andrew Cho(fundraising chair), Raena Nola (events chair), Andrew Knaak (media chair) and Jasmine Whims (treasurer) represented their student chapter at the event and accepted the award. The student group's award-winning shot can be seen on Instagram under the account @umd_larc.
