With water restrictions and high temperatures turning front yards across the country brown, some entrepreneurs are giving homeowners a revitalized, lush-looking lawn with various paints and turf dyes that cost pennies per square foot.
Though the practice is more common in southwestern markets like Arizona or Texas, turfgrass painting businesses in states like Indiana, Missouri and New York have all seen increased demand due to the drought. Golf courses and athletic fields have also been known to add some artificial color to keep their greens green.
Landscape contractors who want to take advantage of this lawn care ''solution'' can easily find paint or dye for purchase over the Internet. For best results, grass should be dry, mowed and free of debris. Backpack sprayers work well on large jobs, and small hand trigger bottles work great for smaller jobs and touch up work.
