The Wilderness Society has launched a petition drive to remove Congressman Don Young and Senator Frank Murkowski as chairmen of the House and Senate Committees dealing with natural resource issues, saying they are too far outside the mainstream of American environmental opinion. As chairmen, these two helped orchestrate a campaign to roll back 25 years of environmental progress... After his appointment two years ago, Congressman Young's first action was to take the word 'natural' out of the committee's name, recalls Rindy O'Brien, Vice President for Public Policy. That spoke volumes about his agenda. The Wilderness Society is urging the Congressional leadership to replace Chairmen Young and Murkowski with legislators who will be strong stewards of our national lands and wildlife.
