The environmental committee of North Tonawanda, N.Y. wants to improve the city?EUR??,,????'???s look and adopt environmental regulations. Amendments to the city code are under review and would apply to new and redevelopment in the city outside of single-family homes. Tonawanda lies about half way up the state on New York?EUR??,,????'???s western border.

The codes mostly dictate landscaping around buildings. Some people are concerned such regulations will dissuade developers from building here. The North Tonawanda Common Council asserts the opposite?EUR??,,????'??+that developers are more attracted to communities with good aesthetics. The council believes it is in step with the trend across the country to upgrade landscape ordinances.

One of the new regulations requires a landscape architect for any development. Mayor Larry Soos and the council, however, do not want this requirement to apply to small business owners. The council feels developers have had it ?EUR??,,????'??easy?EUR??,,????'?? in North Tonawanda and that the new regulations are standard fair and not extreme.

The proposed Remington Rand building redevelopment is cited as one example of an esthetically pleasing addition?EUR??,,????'??+plans for trees on the roof.
