Goose control is an issue at parks and golf courses. Superintendents have used dogs, trapping, birth control and firing blanks . One enterprising landscaper at West Nyack, N.Y. has found a new way to handle the bothersome birds, however.
They sound like leaf blowers. They are quick and low to the ground, like foxes. And geese really don?EUR??,,????'???t like them. Visitors to the Rockland Board of Cooperative Educational Services campus are usually left scratching their heads when they see groundskeepers sending radio-controlled mini-all-terrain vehicles out across school grounds. ?EUR??,,????'??Everybody goes, ?EUR??,,????'??It?EUR??,,????'???s a joke, right??EUR??,,????'??? ?EUR??,,????'?? Joel Morales, groundskeeper and hobbyist, told the The Journal News of Westchester.
The cars aren?EUR??,,????'???t a joke these days for Morales, who is reaching out to the county?EUR??,,????'???s school districts and offering to demonstrate their effectiveness.
Morales bought two machines for $1,059. A gallon of the specialized fuel lasts about a year. The two cars are kept on grounds trucks and are sent out whenever geese are spotted. The cars are nontoxic, don?EUR??,,????'???t harm the geese and don?EUR??,,????'???t cut up the lawns.
