The Season of Giving...

Green Industry Suppliers Donate and Volunteer

And with that in mind, here is a look at just a few of the charitable acts of landscape product manufacturers and others this past year.

To help fulfill a boy's dream of a wheelchair accessible playhouse that would protect against hypothermia, a number of entities teamed with Make-A-Wish of Alaska and Washington. Product donations came from Cascade Lumber, Milgard???(R)???AE???? Windows & Doors, CrystaLite, and others. Time and talent were given by Designs Northwest Architects, Impel, Madrona Beach Construction, Bumson Construction and Nicholson Painting.

Partnering with Project EverGreen to restore a youth athletic field in Hazlet, N.J., the Performance Nutrition division of LidoChem, Inc. donated their organic NutriSmart-B soil inoculant to help the turfgrass seed mix, which they purchased, take root. The company also made a significant financial contribution to the project and their workers pitched in. Also playing a considerable role pro bono was Natural Green Lawn Care from Bridgewater, N.J.

GreenCare for Troops, a program that pairs volunteer landscape contractors with military families in need of landscaping services, benefitted greatly from monetary support and more from equipment manufacturers such as The Toro Company, Boss Snowplow and Nufarm.

Douglas Dynamics, the parent company of commercial vehicle attachments and equipment brands Dejana, Fisher, Henderson, SnowEx, SweepEx, TurfEx and Western, once again combined with the Susan G. Komen organization, Troy Clogg Snow Associates and Hot Pink Deicer to raise money and awareness about breast cancer at the Pink Booth at GIE+EXPO. The efforts brought in over $12,000 according to Jeff Kopp, the customer connect administrator for the equipment manufacturer.
