The Tree Care Industry Association has announced the installation of Will Maley as chair of the Board of Directors. Maley, long-time owner of Cedarlawn Tree Service, Inc., a TCIA-accredited member located in Ashland, Mass. The board is elected by the members to set policy and the strategic direction of the association, which provides safety and educational programs, meetings, publications and guidelines for tree care companies. "Will is a thoughtful and engaging member of the industry and TCIA is thrilled to welcome such a professional and strategic leader as Chair of our Board of Directors," said Mark Garvin, president and CEO of TCIA. In his 33 years in the industry, Maley has been a strong proponent of volunteerism and giving back, serving as chair of the Massachusetts Arborists Association certification committee, representative to the Green Industry Alliance, a legislative advocacy group, and serving as president of the Massachusetts Arborists Association (MAA) in 2000. Once his stint on the state organization's board ended, Maley listened to the encouragement of colleagues and joined the TCIA Board of Directors in 2007. Assuming the position of chair is not the only big change for Maley this year. At the beginning of the year The F. A. Bartlett Tree Expert Company acquired Cedarlawn. Maley has been at the helm at Cedarlawn since graduating from Stonehill College in 1981, however he will not be joining Bartlett along with the rest of the staff. "In as much as I respect the organization and have full confidence for a successful transition, this change offers me a unique opportunity to try something new," says Maley. In fact, he has started a second chapter in his life with the creation of Clarity Advisors, LLC, a tree care and business consulting company. Alongside his fellow Board members, Maley wants to keep TCIA focused on the mission of advancing commercial tree businesses and following through on the strategic planning initiatives. "Safety undoubtedly needs to remain our foremost collective value and must be considered in everything we do," adds Maley. TCIA also announced one addition to the TCIA Board of Directors: Alan Hill Jones, a vice president and division manager at The F. A. Bartlett Tree Expert Company. Learn more about Jones here.
