U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) has introduced House Concurrent Resolution 240, legislation to designate the fourth week of April ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????National Streetscaping Week.?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? The measure recognizes the benefits of streetscapes to communities across the country, as well as creating local green jobs for all landscape professionals; helping reduce energy costs for consumers; managing stormwater; reducing air pollution by sequestering harmful carbon emissions; while creating safer streets and neighborhoods through traffic calming designs, among a host of other benefits.
The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) worked with Rep. Cohen on crafting the legislation, which highlights myriad benefits of streetscapes. The ASLA became involved, of course, because the resolution helps highlight the work of landscape architects. Landscape professionals know that landscape architects design streetscapes and other projects to make our communities more livable and economically viable. The ASLA has created a link to make it convenient and easy to compose a brief message to your legislators to urge them to support National Streetscaping Week. http://capwiz.com/asla/utr/1/ARZNMCYSJB/ESCRMDBHTL/4765266016
