After a bit of a wait, the Town of Emerald Isle has received notice that funds from a state grant are being released.
Emerald Isle was awarded a $97,000 grant from the N.C. Clean Water Management Trust Fund in 2008 for stormwater improvements along Bogue Sound between 1st and Park streets at the east end of the town.
While the grant was awarded, the funds had been held back due to budget challenges at the state level, said Town Manager Frank Rush.
?EUR??,,????'?????<????????We recognize the state?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s budget issues and the current challenges faced by the Clean Water Management Trust Fund. We?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??re just glad to have the funds,?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? Rush said.
The town will use the money to remove existing stormwater outfalls, create new stormwater infiltration systems and install bulkheads and walkways to Bogue Sound in 17 different locations within the project area.
The work will begin in late summer and fall and continue over a three-year period.
The town will match the grant with $36,000 of in-kind labor provided by the town staff.
