The recharger chambers from CULTEC cover a 7,600 square-foot area at the elementary school and can hold up to 95,200 gallons of water. The chambers are lightweight enough to allow installation by one or two workers.

Not long ago, Broadous Elementary School in Pacoima, Calif., experienced extensive flooding during even moderate rainy weather, the result of being a subwatershed of the Los Angeles River. The flooding left nowhere for the children to play, except a paved area.

CULTEC, Inc., along with the L.A. Unified School District, the DWP, Pacoima Beautiful, the city council district and TreePeople joined forces to solve the school?EUR??,,????'???s flooding problem.

The grass area that used to get flooded is now open for the elementary students to play.

Stormwater now passes through a separator, where it is carried to a underground retention field via pipes. Approximately 220 CULTEC recharger chambers retain the water until the surrounding soil can absorb it. The once-vacant lot is now flourishing as a landscaped, grassy play area for the students.
