State's First Chapter of PWB Council

Professional Women in Building of the Lowcountry

The NAHB Professional Women in Building Council states they share strategies and business solutions through education, networking, publications, mentoring and legislative awareness. According to members, they are more successful business professionals because of the support they receive from peer members.

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) approved the formation of South Carolina's first chapter of the NAHB Professional Women in Building (PWB) last month during their Spring Leadership Virtual Meetings.

The NAHB states their PWB Council is the voice of women in the building industry, dedicated to promoting industry professionalism and supporting members at the local, state and national levels through education, professional development and networking opportunities.

The new chapter, the Professional Women in Building of the Lowcountry, consists of 14 women building professionals in South Carolina. The women are also members of the Hilton Head Area Home Builders Association and according to their executive officer, Meg James, the chapter represents women who plan homes, design homes, oversee construction and manage every detail associated with home building.

Although the current health pandemic has prevented the group from meeting in person, they have already begun recruiting new members through a membership drive and have scheduled a welcome reception in August as well as a kickoff event in September during National PWB week.

"It was a long wait, but it was really exciting to hear our name as an official council of the PWB," said the chapter chair, Andrea Eldred. "It's exciting to be able to help other women and show them how they can grow in this field."

The NAHB Professional Women in Building Council also offers various national recognition programs, and scholarships and awards programs. There are three main awards currently accepting submissions: NAHB Woman of the Year Award, NAHB PWB Member of the Year Award and NAHB PWB Councils of the Year Awards in Small, Medium and Large Council sizes. The deadline for applications is September 18 with winners announced at the NAHB PWB Awards program held during the 2021 NAHB International Builders' Show.
