OLYMPIA, Wash. - The federal government has given final approval to all 36 earthquake-related repair projects on the Capitol Campus, allowing the state Department of General Administration to proceed with at least $10 million of work. The figure could increase with approval of pending earthquake-related repairs being identified for the Legislative Building. The last projects approved were for Marathon Park, $598,000, and the Capitol Lake Interpretive Center and Trail, $326,000. Marathon Park will receive extensive refurbishing, including: ?EUR??,,????'???? Replace damaged restrooms ?EUR??,,????'???? Removal and replacement of 2,700 square yards of asphalt pavement ?EUR??,,????'???? Installation of an irrigation system for 66,000 square feet of lawn ?EUR??,,????'???? New drainage pipes and curbs The Capitol Lake Interpretive Center will have 212 tons of damaged asphalt trail removed and replaced. Other work will be done to repair the building at the trail entrance and shore up ground in the overall area. More than half of the $10 million will be for earthquake-related fixes to the 75-year-old Legislative Building, which sustained interior and exterior damage. Earthquake repairs are in addition to the $91 million rehabilitation project that began in June and is slated for completion in November 2004. All repairs, except to the Legislative Building, are expected to be completed throughout 2002 and 2003. The bulk of the money comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The remaining 25 percent will come from a state fund established for repairs after the February 2001 earthquake. FEMA and General Administration have worked since the February 2001 earthquake to determine the type and overall cost of repairs on the Capitol Campus. General Administration will oversee the repair projects. The department manages and maintains the Capitol Campus, which includes Deschutes Parkway and Capitol Lake.
