ECTC Sponsors RECP Course RENO, NV The Erosion Control Technology Council (ECTC) recently sponsored a new "state-of-the-art" short course titled, "Green Engineering: Using Rolled Erosion Control Products (RECPs) Design Principles and Applications." The course was co-sponsored by the International Erosion Control Association (IECA), and held in conjunction with the IECA Conference in Reno, Nevada. The ECTC is a professional association of twelve manufacturers whose goal is the development of design standards for RECPs and their increased usage. According to ECTC spokesperson Melissa Hunter, participants were provided an opportunity for an "up close and personal" look at the "world of RECPs"-- what they are made of, their performance capabilities, their limitations, how they should be installed, what design tools are available, and how to specify these products for a variety of problem solving applications. Course highlights included case histories and detailed installation procedures. C. Joel Sprague, P.E., the instructor and chairman of the IECA Committee B on Geotextiles, has many years of experience in the design and construction of environmentally sensitive projects. He is also the author of numerous articles and technical papers on the development, testing and application of erosion control materials and geosynthetics. The course will be offered again this fall in: Salt Lake City, Utah (November 2); Nashville, Tennessee (November 4); Chicago, Illinois (December 2); and San Francisco, California (December 3). For information on the courses, contact ECTC at 800-880-8378 or visit www.ectc.org. Landscape Architects and erosion control designers may benefit from the ECTC Short Course on Green Engineering. The course will highlight the benefits of rolled erosion control products, and will feature an overview of the design tools that are available to the industry.
