The Parks Issue of Landscape Architect & Specifier News saw many firms submit their projects for feature consideration. This project was not chosen for a Feature in the issue, but we at LandscapeArchitect.com thought the project deserved to be showcased online . . .
This project constructed a new playground along the newly reconstructed Rockaway boardwalk between Beach 98th and 101st Streets. The scope of features included new play equipment for children of various ages, a spray shower, seating areas, a shade structure, game tables, drinking fountains, and salt/wind-tolerant landscape materials. Many of the materials used were part of a larger palette developed in conjunction with other concurrently designed Rockaway reconstruction projects funded by FEMA following Superstorm Sandy.
