The anniversary of Hurricane Katrina is August 29th, and now, three years after the storm, complaints keep pouring in about contractors hired to rebuild homes.

Before the storm, Louisiana’s attorney general’s office got an average 45 contractor complaints a year. In the past two years, it’s gotten more than 6,000. At least 515 of these contractors have been deemed criminal.

By one estimate, for every licensed contractor working in Louisiana, there are five who do not have licenses. It is crucial that all people check to make sure that the contractor they are hiring is licensed.
