The Greenbo XL flowerbox, designed to hang securely on any balcony railing up to six inches wide, won the 2012 Red Dot Design Award. Greenbo products are manufactured using sustainable and recyclable materials.

As in other industries where artistic design plays a big role, landscape businesses often look for the next trend to help bolster their bottom line.

Greenbo, LLC, a home product manufacturer, hopes that they have tapped into a universal consciousness that will lead to a trend as they release their new line of garden containers. Citing the recovering economy as a reason for a collective optimism, the company has emphasized bright colors and clean designs with strong lines.

This is evident in their new flowerbox that hangs on railings, the Greenbo XL, which won the Red Dot Design Award for product design in 2012. It is made from sustainable and recyclable materials in vivid colors with attached drainage trays that can be mixed and matched for custom color combinations.

According to Greenbo's CEO, Roy Joulus, it is a flowerbox that doesn't have to be hidden with flowers as its form is as appealing as its function. He believes that consumers will continue to desire products that promote sustainability, whether that's because they are made from recycled materials or can be recycled themselves, or both, and that the interest in gardening will continue to grow.

The colors of the new line include bright greens, deep fuchsia, bright orange, fiery red, ochre yellow and violet and are made of a high-grade plastic to resist fading and cracking. The company claims that plastic containers require less watering than terra cotta or unglazed ceramic.

Style advice includes mixing up the colors of the containers similar to wildflowers in a garden, or using all one color, playing with different plant/pot color combinations, creating a pattern of repeating colors and textures.
