The "Ever" in Everglades Is Not a Given




On April 22, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Civil Works Review Board unexpectedly refused to sign off on the Central Everglades plan. The plan would redirect more water from Lake Okeechobee water south to replenish the Everglades. The state has been trying to convince Congress to split the $2 billion cost of restoring the lake's water flow to the Everglades. Jacksonville Jumpin'






On March 30, 2014, Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown spoke of Unity Plaza as a catalyst for change and innovation for the city.

Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown was on hand for a ceremonial groundbreaking for construction of Unity Plaza. The city is funding $2.6 million for the project, with total construction costs expected to be more than $30 million. This "urban and performance park," located in the city's riverfront neighborhood known as Brooklyn, is set to open this fall. The city has created a nonprofit organization that's going to develop programming for the new space. www.unityplazajax.com


Chattanooga Gets on Board




Chattanooga has green lighted the first phase of $100 million in housing and commercial space for the downtown waterfront. It will be the largest residential development on Chattanooga's downtown riverfront since Heritage Landing was built in the 1980s. www.timesfreepress.com
