Part of Tuck Landscape's business philosophy is giving back to the community. As a company, we have a continued focus on providing work at no cost to others in need, whether locally in Salt Lake City or in locations across the world.

One of our pro bono projects this past year was for the Maryon family in Draper, Utah. This deserving family was going through a difficult life struggle as the father (Dan) of the household was terminally ill. One of Dan's last wishes was to leave his wife and children with a nice yard to enjoy before he was to pass away, yet he didn't have the means to provide this for his family. Maryon's yard had minimal landscaping and Dan hadn't been able to maintain it under his current condition.

This is when Tuck Landscape stepped in and provided the family with a fully landscaped yard. Our company employees volunteered their own time without pay to provide the service. They had already worked a full week of over 60 hours each and then were willing to donate another 12-hour day over the weekend. Everyone from company owners to new laborers worked hand in hand to make this a special gift. In addition, we asked several vendors to pitch in by donating material for the project, and many of them did!

One of the project's challenges was the location; a mountainside that presented steep grades, rocky soil and a unique climate for plant life. This required us to make sure that we installed plants that could survive in in these conditions. Also, due to the poor soil quality we made sure to mix top grade compost, amendments and top soil with the indigenous soil to aid in plant survival.

The front yard had a steep grade, so we built a large rock retaining wall, landscaped with trees and plants. Not only did this rock wall make the curb appeal of this house more impressive, but also, it was a measure taken to prevent erosion and a way for the landscape design to better match the landscape of the surrounding natural mountainside.

Our employees installed a Belgard paver patio with a privacy fence. With the design and final touches of plant material, this area off the back of the house provided a private, relaxing area for the family to enjoy.
