PHILADELPHIA ?EUR??,,????'??? Add Philadelphia to the list of cities that may use rubber in place of concrete for its sidewalks. The idea has support in the town government, as city councilman Jim Kenney wants the city council to closely study the issue.

Kenny recently toured Chicago to see their environmentally friendly projects, and returned with a number of improvement ideas, for which he plans to hold hearings.

The rubber used in these sidewalks is very solid, harder than a running track, and made from recycled tires. It doesn’t crack, and lasts longer than concrete.

City Councilman, Jim Kenney says rubber sidewalks could also reduce the number of slip-and-fall accidents and the resulting lawsuits. No word as to whether it will allow for easier clean up of cheese steak.
