The Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) announced the selection of Pat Taylor as the Outstanding Academic Administrator in Landscape Architecture for 2007. Mr. Taylor is an associate professor of landscape architecture and director of the landscape architecture program at the University of Texas, Arlington since 1992.

Mr. Taylor credits the award to the students and faculty of landscape architecture, the leadership of Don Gatzke, dean of the UTA School of Architecture and the support of Provost Dana Dunn, Ron Elsenbaumer, vice president for research, and Philip Cohen dean of graduate studies.

Criteria for the award include innovative improvements that have a direct impact on a program’s accreditation, new initiatives and fundraising efforts.

The award was presented to Mr. Taylor at CELA’s annual meeting, Aug. 15 at Penn State University.

CELA previously honored him with an Award of Distinction. He was also the recipient of the Merit Award from the International Commission of Agricultural Engineering.

Mr. Taylor has served CELA as a regional director, president, past president and treasurer.

He has held academic appointments with Texas Tech University, Michigan State University, Texas A&M University and been a visiting lecturer at the University of Birmingham in the UK, at Wageningen University and Research Institute in the Netherlands, and the Swiss Federal Technical Institute in Zurich.

He was a landscape consultant for the LBJ Ranch (1965-71), president of Taylor and Associates, a founding trustee of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Research Center, and co-founder of ISOMUL (International Studygroup for the Multiple Use of Land).
