The 2017 OCASLA Gala + Awards took place on Sept. 29 at the Vecchia Winery in Columbus, Ohio. The keynote speaker was Jordan Davis, director of Smart Cities, Columbus Partnership.

Karla Salmans, of MKSK, led the festivities during the 2017 OCASLA Gala + Awards ceremonies. She was the Ohio ASLA Chapter president from Oct. 2015 to Oct. 2017.

The annual design awards fielded 37 submissions, with 8 projects selected for honors this year:

Honor Awards
- Cincinnati Children's Hospital Clinical Sciences Pavilion, MKSK
- Columbus Green Business & Urban Agriculture Strategic Plan, MKSK
- Residential Design: Garden: A Modernist Reflection, Virginia Burt Designs, Pepper Pike, Ohio

Jordan Davis, director of Smart Cities at the Columbus Partnership, was the keynote speaker for the Gala. She's been instrumental in Columbus winning a U.S. Department of Transportation's Smart Cities Challenge Grant.
