A report just released from the advocacy group, Small Business Majority, concluded: 25% do not reopen following a major disaster. 33% of owners have been personally affected by extreme weather. 57% of small businesses have no disaster recovery plan. $33,000 the daily median cost of downtime from a small business affected by these events. Indirect risks from extreme weather events and other natural disasters include: Power outages Lack of access to water Increased demand for heat or air conditioning Rising insurance costs Supply chain disruptions Lack of access to natural resources Loss of work hours
Preparing for these risks puts businesses in a better position to carry on after such an event.
