NAHB Supports Trump's Supreme Court Nominee

Amy Coney Barrett's Senate Hearing is Scheduled for October 12

Amy Coney Barrett has been nominated to replace Ruth Bader Ginsberg on the Supreme Court. The next step will be for the Senate to have a hearing with Barrett on October 12 to determine if she is an appropriate selection for the open seat.

With news of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg passing earlier this month, there has been significant controversy over when her successor will be appointed. With the election happening in early November, many believe that the decision should not be made until after the next presidential term has started in January 2021. On the other hand, the president can nominate someone to the Supreme Court regardless of the timing, so long as the Senate approves the nominee.

On September 26, President Trump announced that he was selecting Amy Coney Barrett to fill the Supreme Court's open seat. It is now the Senate's responsibility to determine if she is an appropriate selection. If they declare that she is, they will then vote to appoint her to the Supreme Court. Considering the majority of the Senate is Republican, many predict that the process to approve Barrett will be quick as her hearing is scheduled to take place on October 12.

The National Home Builders Association (NAHB) chairman Chuck Fowke commented on the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett. Fowke communicated that "NAHB supports President Trump's nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett as Associate Justice to the U.S. Supreme Court. Throughout her distinguished career as a federal appellate judge and Notre Dame law professor, Judge Barrett has been recognized for her sharp legal mind and as a steadfast defender of the Constitution. In her court decisions, Judge Barrett has been a bulwark against government overreach, ruling in favor of private property rights and providing certainty for small business owners who must constantly grapple with burdensome regulations."

The Senate has until the end of the current congressional term, January 2, 2021, to complete this process.
