Chairman of NAHB, Alicia Huey issued a statement after the vote to install Rep. Mike Johnson, "The National Association of Home Builders congratulates Rep. Mike Johnson on his election to serve as the Speaker of the House. With the nation in the midst of a housing affordability crisis, we look forward to working with the new speaker and Democratic and Republican lawmakers in both chambers to extend the National Flood Insurance Program and pass other important legislation that will allow builders to construct more homes and apartments to move housing and the economy to higher ground."

Housing affordability and the National Flood Insurance Program are just some of NAHB's top priorities. Their priorities also include workforce development, material costs, housing finance reform, and building codes.

The newly added speaker comes just as turmoil in the U.S. government has heightened. Just weeks ago, the government averted a nationwide shut down as President Joe Biden signed the temporary funding bill that is set to expire on November 17. At that time NAHB Chairman Huey emphasized the impact of a disruption to the NFIP, stating that it could lead to delays and cancellations in home sales and multifamily transactions reliant on federal flood insurance, even in the short-term.
