The cemetery near Helena would be expanded by four acres, mainly to the northwest, and be ready for operation in about three years, said Joe Foster, director of the Montana Veteran Affairs.

More than $1 million has been allocated to the building of a new veterans cemetery in Missoula and expanding the Montana Veterans Cemetery near Helena.

The total project includes road work, new wells, and an irrigation system to cover the additional terrain. It also includes the columbarium ?EUR??,,????'??+ a vault with niches to hold urns and ashes.

In 2005, the VA awarded the Montana State Veterans Cemetery roughly $85,000 for improvements, including a new grave indicator and repairs to Memorial Wall.

New flagpoles were also erected and a public restroom was installed on the east side of the grounds.
