Mississippi State Legislators are looking to update the state's Landscape Architecture licensing rules.

The State of Mississippi introduced House Bill 669 which would revise the architect licensing laws.

This bill would authorize multi-disciplinary firms to include Architects, Landscape Architects, and Engineers so long as one active member of the firm holds a certificate to practice in the state. HB 669 would allow for more flexibility in business while establishing specific ownership and professional guidelines such as two-thirds of the business ownership must be registered in the state.

LASN works to promote health, safety, and welfare as we mark our fortieth year of publication. With that, licensure is the most important element, and we will continue to monitor this bill and others across the country.

HB 669 was referred to Business and Commerce on Jan. 15, then on Jan. 30 it was reviewed and determined to be sufficient to move to the next stage of legislation. On Feb. 12 it was read a third time in the House and passed the next day. Then, the house transmitted it to the Senate and on Feb. 17 it was referred to Business and Financial Institutions.

The legislation died in Committee on March 4.
