The washing of government and contractor vehicles in prohibited under a newly implemented a water conservation plan in Fort Detrick, Md.


In July Fort Detrick, Md. implemented a water conservation plan to reduce water use by 10 percent. Outlined in the plan are a number of restrictions that include:

  • The washing of government and contractor vehicles in prohibited.
  • The watering of landscaped areas is prohibited except to establish and maintain newly seeded and sodded grass areas.
  • Handheld containers and hoses with automatic shutoff may be used for watering landscaped areas and irrigating garden plots. No hoses may be used without an operator on site. Drip irrigation may also be used.
  • Washing of sidewalks, driveways, and patios is prohibited except at a minimum rate necessary for sanitation or public health.
