Utilizing remote sensing technology and urban forestry methodologies, RFP Mapping demonstrated the existing and potential tree canopy for the city of Chicago, Illinois.
For this project, they worked closely with Aaron N. Durnbaugh, Deputy Commissioner, Natural Resources and Water Quality Division, Chicago Dept. of Environment. Collaboration was essential in defining the scope of the project as well as determining what existing data could be incorporated to save time and money.
"The goal of the UTC assessment is to provide decision makers with detailed metrics on the state of their urban forest. These metrics enable decision makers to not only understand the urban forest in its current form, but to plan feasible approaches to increasing UTC,?EUR??,,????'?????<???????? says Jarlath O'Neil-Dunne, University of Vermont.
Without proper evaluation, some of a city's most valuable resources may go unnoticed and unprotected. A UTC study puts the value of your urban forest in perspective and provides benchmark urban forest resources, integrates UTC data with existing GIS, collaborates across departments and agencies with flexible data, and obtains concrete, emprical evaluation of your urban forest.
