Robert Lane Camp, 47, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Houston on charges related to his employment of Juan Leonardo Quintero.

The federal complaint alleges that Camp, through his company Camp Landscaping, hired Quintero knowing that he had been deported previously for a crime and was back in the country illegally.

Quintero is facing capital murder charges for the September 2006 murder of Johnson after the veteran police officer pulled him over for a traffic stop in a truck owned by the landscape company. After Quintero failed to produce identification, he was placed in the back of Johnson's police vehicle but shot the officer with a gun that was not discovered during a body search.

"Officer Rodney Johnson's terrible murder illustrates that hiring and harboring illegal aliens is not a victimless crime," said Robert Rutt, special agent in charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Houston. "Many illegal aliens, especially aliens with criminal convictions, are desperate to avoid being detected and apprehended. These people also tend to take desperate actions, and the results are often tragic."

The federal complaint alleges that Camp purchased a home and rented it to Quintero and his wife, and posted a $10,000 bond when his employee was arrested in August 1998 for indecency with a child. Quintero was deported in May 1999, the complaint states.
