Lighting the Outdoors with Low Volts

A new line of outdoor LED string lights will be premiered at The Landscape Expo, which will be held on Oct. 16 and 17 at the Long Beach (Calif.) Expo Center. The lights come in a 12-volt version, which, according to the manufacturer, allows for much longer run lengths.

With lower wattage consumption and greater safety in mind, a manufacturer of low voltage outdoor lighting systems recently announced the release of a new line of professional grade, LED outdoor lighting strings.

Named Bistro Light Systems, they were designed for residential, commercial and hospitality applications by Lightcraft Outdoor Environments. The lights are available in both 12-volt and 120-volt options. The heavy-duty commercial strings come by the foot or in increments of 50 feet, up to 330 feet long.

The line includes strings with medium base sockets (E26) with 24-inch bulb spacing and strings with intermediate base sockets (E17) with 15-inch bulb spacing. The intermediate system comes with a surface mounting option, which is designed to easily attach to building facades for decorating outlines and structures.

The 12-volt strings are offered in several different lamp types at 15 watts incandescent and one watt LED (warm white). This system can be powered off of a standard landscape lighting transformer or integrated into existing 12-volt systems. The one-watt LED system allows for runs up to 330 ft.

The 120-volt strings are also available in many different lamp types at seven watt and 11 watt incandescent and one watt LED (warm white). The standard color is clear glass. Color lamps are also available.

The sockets are PVC with rubber molding to provide a water resistant seal. The cord is SPT2, 16-gauge black. White or green cord options are available on special order.
