Happy New Year!

George Schmok, Publisher

Welcome to 2015 . . . The 30th year of LASN.

That's right. This July will mark 30 years of publication for Landscape Architect and Specifier News magazine. In publishing terms, since the magazine was started in 1985, which counts as the first year of publication, we are now working on Volume 31, but technically we begin celebrating our 30th year with the upcoming July issue.

Another birthday, however, is just one of the things that we have to look forward to in 2015.

To start, we are changing up the editorial calendar a bit by adding a "30 Years in Review" section stating with the July issue. We're also discontinuing the "Green Issue," since most projects and products now have "green' elements already in them. We're replacing the Oct. Green Issue with a "Women in Landscape Architecture" issue.

I know . . . Some may say it is sexist, other say it's long overdue. Still others, say it is like the Green Issue, that women landscape architects are so mainstream to the profession that you don't need to focus only on them. Still, we've been encouraged to do a "Women in Landscape Architecture" issue many times; this year it's a go. As such, LASN would like to hear from you about the women in the profession you feel have made the greatest impact, from environmental issues, to gender equality in the profession, or just through plain good works and design. Send your suggestions for "Women in Landscape Architecture" to editor Steve Kelly skelly@landscapearchitect.com.

Also hot off the shelf is the new Product Search at landscapearchitect.com. Ever search on Google and get nonrelated results? If you Google "benches," you'll get thousands of images that link to pixeled graphics on obscure websites. Last year there were 120,000+ product searches at landscapearchitect, presenting tens of thousands of products and every one linked to a commercial website or a contact phone number.

This year, those product pictures will link directly to each product's spec page on those commercial websites, as more and more of the nearly 1,000 advertisers add their links to the more than 30,400 Product Profiles already on the site.

You can search for product images or for companies; nationally, by state or by area code.

Go ahead . . . Give it a try. Go to the Product Search at landscapearchitect.com and type in "benches" or "street lighting" or "retaining walls," or pick from any of the more than 780 preset searches and see why landscapearchitect has become the industry wide favorite for searching All Things Landscape . . .

Also this year you might want to adjust your email settings, as landscapearchitectWeekly will be coming from its own domain . . . LoWeekly.com. It is the only thing that you will receive from that domain.

If you give us an email address, every Tuesday you will receive from loweekly@loweekly.com a content-rich email with links to expanded articles from LASN and Landscape Contractor/DBM, as well as late breaking industry news, legislative alerts, product introductions and more. Thousands of landscape architects and contractors receive and read the email every week. So be sure to add "LoWeekly.com' to your email "accept' feature and watch for it every Tuesday.

We are also doing all kinds of behind the scenes programming to interrelate the website to the magazine and the upcoming Specifier's Guide, as well as opening up local suppliers to both resources.

So, 2015 is starting off with a bang and lots of new and improved features for your entertainment, education and professional growth are coming your way. Let's make 2015 the best year ever!!!!

God Bless . . .
