Kiley Park on Endangered List

The Tampa park designed by Dan Kiley is revered but its existence threatened. Kiley?EUR??,,????'???s design of the Miller residence in Columbus, Ind., is the only landscape design on the National Register of Historic Places

The Florida Trust for Historic Preservation has placed the small park next to 400 North Ashley Plaza in Tampa on its 2005 list of 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. The park, which debuted in 1988 and was designed by influential landscape architect Dan Kiley, who passed away last year, is considered a national treasure by many LAs.

The park has fallen into disrepair and been threatened with extinction. Sue Thompson, a landscape architect in Sarasota and Charles Birnbaum, who heads the National Park Service Historic Landscape Initiative, have been pivotal in drawing attention to the park’s plight.

The park was originally named NationsBank Plaza Park after the property’s building owner. In January 2005 the building and property were purchased by America’s Capital Partners.
