HUD's PRO Housing grants will provide $85 million to communities to tackle local housing barriers and improve affordability in 21 awarded communities.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) unveiled the recipients of their Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing (PRO Housing) grants, aimed at bolstering locally led housing reforms. The initiative, announced on June 28, will distribute $85 million in grant funding to 21 recipients, with an additional $100 million earmarked for a second round of grants later this year.

HUD Acting Secretary Adrianne Todman emphasized the importance of these efforts, stating, "As I travel across the country, I hear from people all the time, including builders, elected officials, and other stakeholders, about how difficult it is to build housing. This is why I am pleased to announce our first round of PRO Housing funding, which will provide communities with incentives to address their local housing barriers."
Recipients of the grants span 21 cities, including Montgomery, Alabama; Anaheim, California; Denver, Colorado; and Seattle, Washington. The funds are intended to assist these communities in updating housing plans, revising land use policies, and streamlining the permitting process.
