September housing starts were up 1.9 percent from the revised August estimate at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,415,000 according to the most recent statistics by the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Housing and Development (HUD). This figure is 11.1 percent above last year's rate of 1,274,000.

 

Single-family housing starts were at a rate of 1,108,000 in September which is an 8.5 percent increase from August's estimate of 1,021,000 and 22.3 percent above last year's September figure. The rate for units in buildings with five or more units was down in September at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 295,000.
