Country Club Way; Tempe, AZ
This project involved preliminary and final design for the addition of nine neighborhood bikeway and pedestrian facilities to the Country Club Way alignment. This corridor provides a 7.0-mile connection between the City of Chandler, ASU Research Park, Tempe Marketplace retail center, recreational activities at Tempe Town Lake, and connectivity to intersecting multi-modal networks linking to Mesa and Scottsdale. One of the most notable elements was the sun-dial-inspired shade structure, with its illuminated center post and integrated time-telling structure. This project included preparing roadway cross-sections, potential alternatives, the project assessment, permitted plans, and post-design services for final installation.
Beale Street; Kingman, AZ
This downtown project for the City of Kingman provided Beale Street roadway improvements, including the improvement of ADA accessibility conditions, shade trees for the sidewalks and parking, wayfinding and seating, site furnishings such as bike racks and trash receptacles, lighting elements to identify character and finishes, and place-making features such as storytelling hardscape. The use of drought-tolerant plants also improved the project's sustainability. HP+D completed Site Analysis, Planting / Irrigation Design, and Street Site Design. Buckeye Arterial Gateway Guide; Buckeye, AZ
HP+D provided planning and concept production for all arterial gateways and parkways in Buckeye, including concept creation for major and minor gateway wayfinding signage as well as a median design toolkit. HP+D held presentations to the city council and stakeholders, coordinated engagement meetings, and used community input to guide the original design. The concepts were developed under the guiding principles of maintenance sensitivity, low water use, and sustainability, and feature ADWR-certified plant lists and recycled construction materials to ultimately create the Arterial Gateway Median Guide. In conjunction with the Guide, a maintenance manual was developed to specify proper care and replacement for medians constructed in the future.

Crosscut Canal; Tempe, AZ
This project involved working with the City of Tempe to produce the design and construction documents for Phase 2 improvements to a shared-use path connecting Moeur Park, Canal Park, and Papago Park. The project includes a one-mile, non-motorized, ADA-accessible pathway facility, landscape and lighting, benches, public art, trail amenities, and three pedestrian bridges over the SRP Crosscut Canal and spillway canal. The team coordinated special pedestrian features with an artist and provided design for pedestrian paving, seating, signage, and shade trees.
Van Buren Shared Use Path; Avondale, AZ
A new multi-use path stretches along the north side of Van Buren Street between 113th and 127th avenues, offering safer, more accessible travel for pedestrians and cyclists in Avondale. Working with the City of Avondale on this multi-modal corridor project brought not only a paved path, but also improved drainage, shaded rest areas, and themed landscaping. Tractor tread stamping in the hardscape pays homage to the area's agricultural roots. Gateway features were placed along the east and west sides of the Avondale Boulevard intersection off Van Buren. At Avondale Boulevard, these new gateway features - including benches, recycling bins, and custom bike racks - enhance community appeal and encourage active transportation.
Central Avenue; Avondale, AZ
This project was a mile-long street improvement to the existing Central Avenue arterial corridor, from Van Buren Street to Western Avenue. Avondale's Central Avenue was a five-lane road not known for its walkability or sense of place. The project area is home to six schools and is a major thoroughfare for students. A travel lane was removed in each direction to accommodate pedestrian and bike paths, buffered by newly installed landscape planters that were designed as a Low Impact Development (LID) project in which stormwater runoff is collected and reused for passive irrigation. The plant palette showcases native vegetation that provides shade for cyclists and pedestrians. This was the first public, large-scale streetscape water harvesting project in Arizona.
11th Street; Phoenix, AZ
This project provided a comfortable complete streets corridor that links neighborhood destinations to other multi-modal transit connections. Key features include sidewalks that were widened to eight feet while retaining the historic pavements and landscape setbacks that comprise the cultural fabric of the corridor. Pedestrian comfort was improved by providing shade through landscaping. Nodes at quarter-mile intervals serve as outdoor living rooms to encourage community interaction with seating, pedestrian-scale lighting, waste receptacles, and enhanced pavement "carpets." Final construction documentation was provided by HP+D.
