Guidelines for Accessibility toPublic Playgrounds Worksheet

The ADAAG specifies two requirements for how many ground-level play components must be connected to an accessible route:

•One of each type of provided play component must be located on an accessible route.
•Ground level requirements as outlined in the chart below.

This worksheet is provided to help you learn to use the accessibility guidelines in planning for public playgrounds. While not intended for use with playgrounds already in existence, the page below will help you outline how plan your future playground in compliance with ADA requirements.
1 Assess ground level and elevated components of your play structure.

2 Determine what components are needed.
The table at the bottom right of the page gives the established number of ground-level play components required on an accessible route. This number is based on the number of provided elevated play components.

3 Compare ground play types in steps 1 and 2.
The larger number is your required minimum number of ground-level play components on an accessible route.
