To avoid a repeat of last month?EUR??,,????'???s retaining wall collapse on the Upper West Side in New York City, the Buildings Department is offering free, no penalty retaining wall inspections.
More than 200 people at the Park Village complex were temporarily displaced by the retaining wall collapse in July. No injuries were immediately reported. The wall had been installed to protect the neighboring apartment building on Manhattan?EUR??,,????'???s Upper West Side during neighboring construction. It is speculated that the wall collapsed as a result of the building blast, although authorities are still investigating.
The Department of Buildings is now offering free inspections, but only up until September 3rd. If the Department of Buildings finds something wrong during the inspections, the owner will not be fined.
?EUR??,,????'??Give us a call, we?EUR??,,????'???ll go out, no penalty, no violation and we?EUR??,,????'???ll advise them,?EUR??,,????'?? said Robert LiMandri of the DOB. ?EUR??,,????'??You know a lot of people don?EUR??,,????'???t necessarily know that their walls are just like maintaining their home or their building. They need to be looked at and maintained and what we want to do is advise them on the telltale signs and share with them on how they can correct that.?EUR??,,????'??
