Building projects, particularly in the commercial and industrial sectors, were not a focus of the federal stimulus program. Architecture firms have seen only marginal benefit from this program. As of February, about 22 percent of all architecture firms report having received funding for projects under this program (including firms that have completed projects or that only have inactive projects). An additional 17 percent of firms that have received inquiries but haven?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????t had funded projects. This brings into question how much has federal stimulus affected the building industry and subsequently helped out the landscape industry.
This share has been growing as project funds have been dispensed. In April of 2009, shortly after the program began, just under 12 percent of architecture firms reported active projects funded through the federal stimulus program; a figure that had grown to 16 percent by last July.
Still, a year into the program, a majority of architecture firms (57 percent) still report neither projects nor solid inquiries for projects. This brings into question how much has federal stimulus affected the building industry and subsequently helped out the landscape industry.
Even those firms with funded projects or possibilities for stimulus projects this year feel that they will not have much of an impact on firm revenue. Of the 36 percent of firms that expect to see some stimulus funded projects this year, 60 percent anticipate that these projects will account for under 5 percent of firm billings this year, and another 24 percent expect that they will total between 5 percent and 10 percent of total revenue. Fewer than 4 percent of firms expect stimulus projects to account for at least 25 percent of firm revenue in 2010. ?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)??????oe Courtesy of AIA
