Steven Koch is noted for his ability to develop gardens and urban spaces that evoke the historic and cultural landscape of the Northwest. He is a master of urban context and scale, and his work is crisp, restrained, and responsive to social, ecological, and programmatic objectives. His richly tactile surfaces, unexpected juxtaposition of materials, dramatic lighting, artful stormwater conveyance, and layered plant palettes create environments that refresh and delight. Koch advanced the founding principles of landscape architecture that he learned while working under Ian McHarg and Lawrence Halprin.
