Most notable professional accomplishments:

With the publication of American Designed Landscapes: A Photographic Interpretation, I realized the dream I had for many years of a book of black and white photographs of significant works on landscape architecture. I believe it is important for landscape architects to understand the legacy of American landscape design. I selected eighteen landscapes that I considered emblematic and worthy of wider exposure and archiving. The black and white photographs allowed a focus on the structure and spaces, and the accompanying plans and text provided necessary context for the design.

Thoughts on being elected to Council of Fellows: I value the recognition by my peers of a career in both design and photography. While I have been privileged to visit, analyze and photograph many great landscapes all over the world, becoming a fellow gives me a sense of time well invested in the pursuit of quintessential images of these sites. Sometimes it has been a fairly lonely pursuit of image making in the darkroom. This work now seems appreciated and worth the long hours. The honor of being a Fellow also gives me renewed energy to complete current projects on the English landscape and the public spaces of Rome.
